It’s the end of October and I’m still relishing the sun that warms the day, but there is definitely a chill in the air. So while I can, I continue to play in the dirt and complete all the must-do’s for the urban farm and garden before it gets too cold.
Hori Hori, in Japanese, roughly translates to “Dig Dig”. This has become one of my most favorite tools. It’s extremely versatile with a heavy serrated steel blade making it a multi-purpose knife for all gardening tasks. It can be used to dig holes, divide perennials, cut roots, remove plants from their containers, break up clay soil, amend soil, transplant, create rows to sow seeds, and take out weeds. Phew...! You can see why I call this a workhorse of a tool and a must-have for any gardener!
A Hori Hori can be an investment, but definitely a worthwhile long-term investment, and with the right care will provide many years of ease for you to get through those garden tasks.
I purchased my Hori Hori from barebonesliving.com and love that it's well made and by a company that does good.
